Considerando a cidade de Salvador, sabe-se que um número crescente de famílias vive hoje nesse cenário, o que desperta o nosso interesse em revisitá-lo, focalizando os fatores que mediam o cotidiano das famílias residentes em dois bairros pobres dessa cidade. Revisitar esse cenário implica, portanto, em retomar alguns pressupostos teóricos sobre família, classe e pobreza, situando as primeiras em um ciclo de vida considerado intermediário, ou da maturidade, o que corresponde à localização dos chefes provedores na faixa etária em torno dos 35 anos e mais, e dos filhos no início da adolescência. Segundo esses pressupostos, é fundamental o entendimento das restrições impostas pelo mercado de trabalho urbano que afetam as possibilidades de reprodução das famílias em função das suas configurações internas. Essas respondem às mudanças que vêm ocorrendo no próprio âmbito das relações familiares e de vizinhança no espaço de moradia. Trata-se, portanto, de entender as práticas, estratégias e padrões de sociabilidade presentes nesse espaço, na medida em que dependem de redes sociais que estão inseridas em condições concretas de vida que operam no meio urbano. REVISITING THE FAMILY IN THE POVERTY SCENARIO This paper presents some introductory data focusing on the urban poverty present scenario. It is a known fact that nowadays in the city of Salvador a growing number of families live in this scenario. It has drawn our attention to revisit it, focusing on the factors that mediate the everyday life of the families living in two poor districts in this city. Therefore, to revisit this scenario implies in reconsidering some theoretical presuppositions about family, class and poverty, situating the first ones in a cycle of life considered the intermediate, or the maturity cycle, which corresponds to the identification of the heads of the family in the age group around 35 years or older, as well as their children in early adolescence. According to these presuppositions, it is important to understand the restrictions imposed by the urban labor market that affects the possibilities of reproduction of families, as a result of their inner configurations. They react to the changes that are taking place within the family and neighborhood relationships in the living space. Therefore it is a matter of understanding the practices, strategies and sociability patterns present in this space, as they are dependent on the social networks inserted in concrete living conditions that operate in the urban environment.
